Just a side thought..a while back I got a speeding ticket on the thruway and had to appear in Junius court. While I was there, several boys in orange jumpsuits being escorted by Deputies for arraignment or to answer charges similar to the one in this news report. I’m assuming the procedure is common across the country. I couldn’t help but doing the math, adding up the wages of the police and the cost of transporting inmates to a courthouse. Wouldn’t it be better to have a town justice travel to the jail than to bring the jail guests and all those officers to the courthouse? From a financial standpoint, in a time when local, county and state budgets are strained to the point of bankruptcy, doesn’t it make sense to become more efficient wherever possible?
