The American Red Cross in the Finger Lakes was notified this morning that some sediment stirred up in the local water supply is clouding the water in the pipes throughout the town of Seneca Falls.
Residents are advised that running water through the cold water pipes will clear the sediment. It is only necessary to run the water from one faucet to remedy the situation. Avoid running hot water until the pipes run clear since the sediment could harm hot water tanks. The water is completely safe for drinking. It could take as long as 10-15 minutes to clear the lines, though it may only take a few seconds in most cases.
The town water office says the sediment is the result of an unusually large draw on the water system.
