It’s time once again to meet in People’s Park (9AM to 1:30PM) and buy fresh, local produce and other locally made products. Come down and meet the market manager, Berta Bennett, who returns to her duties at the market once again this season. If you are a food stamp recipient come to the manager’s tent and use our EBT card to get tokens to spend on an food stamp eligible items at the market. What a great way to stretch your food dollars!
WIC recipients have their Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) coupons that are accepted by all produce vendors for purchasing local fruits and vegetables. Senior citizen FMNP coupons should be available soon and when they are the market is the place to come to pick them up and then use them right then and there.
Our produce vendors have had some great products the last few weeks….green and yellow beans, peas, tomatoes, yellow and zucchini squash, carrots, beets and many varieties of fresh greens for your salad! We are expecting cucumbers to show up this week. And Dave & Rita’s Farm Market will be there this week with pulled pork sandwiches on a fresh baked roll and Penne pasta with tomatoes in a blush sauce , each available individually or make it a combo which includes choice of macaroni, potato or pasta salad, and a drink (Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Sprite or Bottled Water).
As always there will be fresh baked breads, cookies, macaroons, pastries, cakes and granola, farm fresh eggs, cheese from 5 local creameries, potted plants, hand-crafted items, even handmade chairs! We have a new jewelry vendor who has lovely handcrafted earrings, necklaces and bracelets and a vendor who grows her own heirloom lavender to use in vintage linen sachets.
Talk to the people who grow and produce the items you buy. Many products are grown chemical free and one vendor specializes in heirloom varieties of produce. Come and learn where your food comes from, from the people who know!
Once again Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extensions’ nutrition staff will be on hand, this week with fresh green pea soup for tasting! Take home the recipe and pick up some peas at the market.
Come and see why the Seneca Falls Farmers Market keeps growing! Thank you to the Town of Seneca Falls and the Seneca Falls Recreation Department for their support of the market. We couldn’t do it without them!
