We had some questions about the sale of the Bayberry Girl Scout Facility in Seneca County and received a quick response from Judy Gallagher, Director of Marketing and Communications, Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways, Inc. that add some clarity.
SDN: What specific properties are recommended to be sold in Seneca County and what is the current status of those properties? What is the current employment provided by these facilities and how will this recommendation effect staffing/employment of these facilities?
Gallagher: The Bayberry Program Center is located at 300 Route 318 and includes one of the Junius Ponds. It also has an office building that houses our Phelps Service Center where there are currently six employees serving the volunteers and girls in that area.
SDN: What is meant by “–Relocating the Phelps and New Hartford Service Centers to same respective areas”?
Gallagher: We’ll be looking at different locations, in proximity to current office locations to house our operations/staff.
SDN: How will the Board effectively go about preserving the Junius Pond?
Gallagher: I believe the intent is to look at environmental groups that might be interested in the area to either purchase or accept a donation to preserve the pond and its surrounding area.
SDN: Will there be any continued presence of a Girl Scout Camp facility in Seneca County?
Gallagher: Once Bayberry is no longer owned by Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways, we most likely will not OWN a piece of camp property in Seneca County, but will continue to offer the same quality outdoor experience for girls at our other properties, and utilize the many wonderful outdoor facilities available to us in the Finger Lakes for programming.
