It’s time once again to meet in People’s Park (9AM to 1:30PM) and buy fresh, local produce and other locally made products. If you are a senior, come and see the market manager to see if you are eligible to receive Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons good to spend on fresh fruit and vegetables at the market! Eligible seniors receive $20 in checks to spend at the market and all of the produce vendors in Seneca Falls accept these checks! WIC recipients have already received their Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) coupons so come down and shop this week. If you are a food stamp recipient you can also come to the market managers tent and use your EBT card to get tokens to spend on any food stamp eligible items at the market. What a great way to stretch your food dollars!
Our produce vendors have had some great products the last few weeks….green and yellow beans, peas, tomatoes, yellow and zucchini squash, carrots, beets and many varieties of fresh greens for your salad! And Dave & Rita’s Farm Market will be there again serving up a hearty, delicious lunch.
As always there will be fresh baked breads, cookies, macaroons, pastries, cakes and granola, farm fresh eggs, cheese from 5 local creameries, potted plants, hand-crafted items, even handmade chairs! We have a new jewelry vendor who has lovely handcrafted earrings, necklaces and bracelets and a vendor who grows her own heirloom lavender to use in vintage linen sachets. Also a fresh meat vendor who has chemical free chicken, duck and lamb. And a creamery from Lyons who has their own goat milk, yogurt and cheese.
Once again Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extensions’ nutrition staff will be on hand, this week with fresh corn, basil, bean and tomato salad for tasting! Take home the recipe and pick up some corn and tomatoes at the market to make your own version at home.
Talk to the people who grow and produce the items you buy. Many products are grown chemical free and one vendor specializes in heirloom varieties of produce. Come and learn where your food comes from, from the people who know!
Thank you to the Town of Seneca Falls and the Seneca Falls Recreation Department for their support of the market. We couldn’t do it without them!
