It’s a hot Saturday summer night. Four of us are enjoying a long drive through the heart of the Finger lakes, headed for Trumansburg. As the sun grows low in the sky, we park the car, looking at a normal-looking farm and barn. Can this be it?
Silver Queen Farm plays host to a monthly gourmet, farm-driven meal, known as the The Farm & Fork. The Farm & Fork is a collaboration between a caterer and local farms. The third Saturday evening of each month they welcome guests for a gourmet meal prepared with just-picked vegetables and fruits from the Finger Lakes Region.
The idea for a monthly harvest dinner started with a conversation in 2011 between Serendipity owner Stephanie Holzbaur and Farmer Gordie Gallup. Serendipity had held similar dinner events before, but with Gallup’s Silver Queen Farm, they had plenty of beautiful space to host regular events
Once we checked in, we took got a glass of local wine and sampled delicious appetizers outside. Gordie and Stephanie love to answer questions and describe what we are about to enjoy.
The Farm & Fork collaboration includes Serendipity Catering and chef Gallup and about 12 to 15 other local farms including Blue Heron, Autumn’s Harvest, Dunsmoor, Finger Lakes Fresh and Lively Run Dairy and Goat Farm. Menus will be announced the week of the events as they are created based on what is growing in the fields.
Individual tickets are $60 for dinner and $30 for brunch while dinner and brunch tickets for children 12 and under are $25 and $15, respectively. Events are held on the 3rd weekend of every month with Saturday dinners 6:30-9:30 and Sunday brunches 11:00-1:30.
Tickets to a future Farm & Fork dinner are available in person at Silver Queen Farm, 5386 Stillwell Road, Trumansburg, and at Ticket Center Ithaca, 171 E. State St.
