Waterloo/Louisville, KY – B. Irene Pierie, age 89, of 7201 Quindero Run Rd., Louisville, KY, formerly of 1188 Waterloo-Geneva Road, died Wednesday (June 8, 2011) at The Episcopal Church Home, Louisville, KY surrounded by her loving family and pastor of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
Friends may call from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. Friday (June 17) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday (June 18) at the funeral home. The Rev. Leah Ntuala, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Seneca Falls, will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo.

Irene was born May 17, 1922 in Waterloo, the daughter of the late Clayton E. and Bertha I. Godfrey VanNostrand. She was a 1939 graduate of Waterloo High School and a 1940 graduate of the Ontario Business School of Geneva, NY.
She was employed several years with the Seneca County Clerk’s Office. She then was employed for 25 years as a bookkeeper and office manager for the Avedisian Motors in Phelps, retiring in 1990. She was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Waterloo for 60 years, as of 2000. She served as a Sunday school teacher for a number of years and served terms as elder and deacon for the church. She was a member of Taylor-Brown Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for 12 years. She was also a life member of the Waterloo Sportsmen’s Club. She became a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Louisville, KY after moving there with her son and family where she knitted scarves, mittens and hats for the poor. She also was a member of the quilting group and helped make Prayer Blankets for Norton Hospital.
She is survived by two sons, Edward “Ted” C. and his wife, Sandra Pierie of Louisville, KY and James H. and his wife, Kathleen Pierie, of Woodland Park, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Lisa Pierie of Louisville, Ky, Steven(Melissa) of Louisville Ky, Michelle(Douglas) Werner of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Shawn (Chris) Edwards of Colorado Springs, Randon(Patti) Ribble of Anchorage, Alaska, Douglas (Peggy) Ribble of Ocala, Fl and Yvonne(Jeff) Nicholas of Elizabethtown, KY.; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and two brothers, William (Lucille) VanNostrand and Fred (Louise) VanNostrand, both of Waterloo; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold C. Pierie, who died April 17, 1992; one son, William, who died Oct. 24, 1950; and one sister, H. Lorraine Schroeder, who died Feb. 16, 1999.
