Joyce I. Hoaglan, age 85, former longtime resident of Poplar Beach in Romulus, died in Camillus, at the home of her daughter, following an extended illness.
The family will receive friends from Noon to 2:00pm on Wednesday, (June 29) at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 So. Main Street in Ovid. A funeral service will then follow at 2:00pm, officiated by Rev. Diane Walker of the Ovid Federated Church. Prayers of committal will be held at Ovid Union Cemetery. Joyce was born on April 18, 1926 in Endicott, NY, a daughter of the late Gerald and Camilla (Briggs) Hoyt, and lived in Vestal until moving to Romulus. She was married to Francis Hoaglan on July 5, 1947 in Ovid, New York. Joyce was a photographer before settling down to being a wife, mother, and homemaker. While raising her own family, she also provided a safe haven throughout the years to numerous foster children in Seneca County.
She is survived by a son, Lee (Barb McCall) Hoaglan of Willard, a daughter, Jill (Dan) Zerrillo of Camillus and a daughter in law, Sharon Hatch, a granddaughter, Carole Anne Hatch and a great granddaughter, Lilly Aho, and by several nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband in 1986, by a son, William Hatch in 1986, a sister, Marguerite Hoppes and a brother Richard Hoyt.
