Seneca Falls - Carl A. Sassano of Meadow St., Seneca Falls, NY, passed way Saturday (May 12) at Geneva General Hospital, Geneva, NY with his loving and adoring family at his side.
Family and friends may call at the Doran Funeral Home, 4 E. Bayard St., Seneca Falls, on Wednesday (May 16) from 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday (May 17) at 9:15 AM at the funeral home and at 10 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, Seneca Falls, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend James Fennessy, Pastor. Burial will follow in St. Columbkille Cemetery, Seneca Falls. The Seneca Falls Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the funeral home on Wednesday (May 16) at 7 PM.
Carl was born in Syracuse, NY on June 12, 1927 the son of the late Gennaro & Rose Discenza Sassano. He had resided in Seneca Falls since 1952 moving from Syracuse, NY. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had attended LeMoyne College of Syracuse, NY and was a graduate of Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering. He retired as an engineer from GTE-Sylvania and Phillips ECG of Seneca Falls with 37 years of service. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, Seneca Falls where he was involved in the Nicaragua Project and the St. Patrick’s Festival. He was a 4th degree member of the Seneca Falls Knights of Columbus, Council #222, the S.M.S. of Seneca Falls and he worked the S.M.S. Lenten Fish Fries. He was the 2011 recipient of the S.M.S. Dino Morganti Award and participated in the S.M.S. Bocce League. He had been active with the Seneca County Christmas Project, the St. Anthony Festival, and the former Seneca Falls Aqua Festival. He was a former member of the Seneca Falls Elks Lodge #992 where he had participated in the Bocce League. He enjoyed gardening and was very proud of the fact that he designed his own home. He enjoyed his friends, his family and a good glass of wine with Italian bread.

In addition to his parents, Carl was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Marie D. Sassano who passed away April 1, 2012, 4 brothers, Carmen, Eugene (Nancy), Arthur, & Albert Sassano, 4 sisters, Madeline (Carmen) Pilla, Mary (Louis) Bill, Carol Karpen, & Louise Sassano, and an infant brother, Carl Sassano. He also is predeceased by his brother-in-law, Joseph Mirizio and his mother & father-in-law, Anthony & Angeline LaGrasta Mirizio
