Waterloo - Constance Mary Avery, 91, formerly of 23 Locust St., Apt. A , died Tuesday (July 10, 2012) at Seneca Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Waterloo, with family by her side.
Honoring Connie’s wishes there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be at the convenience of the family in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Waterloo.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church 25 Center St., Waterloo, 13165 or a charity of one’s choice.
Connie was born September 19, 1920 in Pittston, PA, the daughter of Joseph A. and Jennie Matthews Zawacki. She was a graduate of Pittston High School. She then served in the U. S. Army in 1944. Returning from the service she and her husband moved to the Finger Lakes. She then graduated from Freeman Business School in Geneva. She was employed at Seneca Army Depot for a number of years. Later she retired as Senior Account Clerk from the NYS Department of Transportation in 1974. She was a member of CSEA/AFSCME Retiree Program. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of Catholic Daughters of America, Court Theresa #806.
She is survived by sons, Robert (Janie) Avery, Sr. of Bradenton, FL and Leo (Arlene) Avery of Lake Charles, LA; daughter-in-law, Elaine Avery of Waterloo; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Leo (Bea) Zawacki of Dupont, PA; sister, Theresa Oliver, of Pittston, PA; several niece and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert O. Avery, April 6, 1990; a son, Jerome “Jerry” P. Avery, May 13, 2006; brother, Joseph Jerome Zawacki.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo.
