Waterloo - Doris Mary Wells Lutz, 90, of 1868  E. River Rd., died Saturday (March 3, 2012) at Wayne County Nursing Home in Lyons.

In keeping with Doris’ wishes there will be no calling hours. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday (Mar. 8) at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waterloo.  The Rev. James Fennessy, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Waterloo.

Memorial contributions may be made to organization of one’s choice.

Doris was born June 4, 1921 in Cherry Creek, the daughter of LeRoy and Julia Wachter Wells. She was a graduate of Cherry Creek High School.  She then graduated as a registered nurse from St. Mary’s Niagara School of Nursing in Buffalo.  She enlisted as a registered nurse in the U.S. Army serving during W.W. II as First Lieutenant.  Returning from the service she was employed with St. Mary’s Hospital in Buffalo.  She married in 1956 her husband, Norman R. Lutz, then moved to Waterloo.  She then was employed with Seneca Falls Hospital for a short time.  She served as secretary for Waterloo Contractors and Waterloo Container for many years.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Warner-VanRiper American Legion Post 435 and Waterloo Memorial Post 6433.  She was a former member of Seneca Falls Elks Lodge 992, B.P.O.E.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting. She was a devoted wife and mother.  She was also a compassionate person to others.

She is survived by sons, James (Carol) Lutz of Cary, N.C. and William (Annette) Lutz of Seneca Falls; daughters, Kathleen (William) Excell of Waterloo, Julie (Robert) Miranda, of N. Rose and Susan (Douglas) Petersen of Romulus; grandchildren, Courtney (Corey) Foster, Mackenzie Gelina, Jennifer Lutz, Maxwell Petersen, Samuel Excell, Michael Lutz, Shawna Excell, Emma Petersen, Bridgette Lutz, Victoria Lutz, and Sarah Lutz; special niece, Janis Vervoort of Florida; “other son”, Stanley Gibbs of AZ; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by brothers, Donald Wells, Richard Wells, Norman Wells, Edwin Wells, and Herbert Wells and sister, Jean Kropat.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo.
