Edna M. Benjamin, 82, of Seneca Falls, matriarch and guiding light for three generations of grateful family, received her wish for a natural and peaceful passing at home on Friday, May 18, 2012. Edna was the daughter of the late James and Margaret Bowen of Clyde, N.Y., born on June 7, 1929. Edna was a devoted wife to her husband George, who passed away in 2004. She was also an ever-present gift of time, motivation, support, and attention to her children, grandchildren, family, and friends.
Family and friends may call to share stories and memories on Thursday, May 24, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Doran Funeral Home, located at 4 East Bayard Street, Seneca Falls, NY 13148. A funeral service will follow at 8:00 p.m. and a graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 25, at Springbrook Cemetery. Both services will be officiated by Pastor Tom Easttey.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Beverly Animal Shelter at 50 E. River Street, Waterloo, New York 13165.
Edna worked as a production supervisor for GTE Sylvania from 1949 to 1966. She was also a member of the management team for Benjamin’s Restaurant, working in many capacities from 1983 through 1987, but probably best known for her pie making. She enjoyed time with her family, traveling, and always took great joy in attending sporting events involving her children and grandchildren and rarely missed a game. A great pride in her life was receiving the Woman of Distinction award in 2009 in recognition of outstanding accomplishments and contributions from Waterloo Central School District.
She is survived by her sons Dennis (Susan) Benjamin of Waterloo, Mark (Bonnie) Benjamin of Waterloo, and grandchildren Casey Benjamin, Haley Benjamin, and Dylan Benjamin, and sisters, Kelly (Barney) Iocco, and Dorothy Lewis. She was predeceased by her brothers George Bowen and James Bowen.
The family would like to thank the many people who have reached out and helped us over the past few weeks, and for the kind words, thoughts, and actions that have been directed to our mother.
