DUNDEE - Helen Kendall Silliman, age 93, of St. Mark’s Terrace, in Dundee, died Tuesday (March 6, 2012) at Penn Yan Manor after a short illness.
Friends are invited to call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday (March 9) at the Baird Funeral Home 36 Water St. Dundee. A private memorial service for the family will be held after calling hours with Rev. Lucinda O’Leary officiating. Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family in Hillside Cemetery, Dundee.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Dundee Fire Company Emergency Squad, 12 Union St. Dundee, N.Y. 14837 or to a charity of the donor’s choice .
Helen was born June 28, 1918, in Berwick, Penn., the daughter of the late Percy B. and Helen M. Missimer Furman. She graduated from Sidney High School in 1936. She moved to Dundee in 1940. After raising her family, at the age of 45, she continued her education, graduating from the Whelan School of Practical Nursing in 1965; and became a Licensed Practical Nurse working at the Geneva General Hospital until her retirement in 1983. Helen was a life long bowler and regularly swam at the Keuka College swimming pool. She was known for her sewing & crafts. She made beautiful quilts for the births of her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is loved and will be missed by two sons, Furman W. (Nancy) Kendall and Bruce I. (Suzanne) Kendall, all of Dundee; a daughter, Harriet K. (Richard Presher) Martin of Penn Yan, a brother Phillip A. (Viola) Furman of Tarpon Springs, Fla., a dear sister-in-law Lois K. (Edward) Cottrell of Dunedin, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her first husband and father of her children Wesley P. Kendall on November 20, 1986; and her second husband Elmer D. “Tug” Silliman on April 29, 2003; three sons, Richard A. Kendall in 1970, Phillip T. Kendall in 1987, Charles Eugene Kendall in 2007, and 3 sisters, Harriet & Faye Furman, and Mildred Wall.
