Phelps – Jan R. Major, 61, of King Road, Phelps, NY, died Monday (March 19, 2012) at Clifton Springs Hospital, Clifton Springs, NY.

Family and friends may call at the Doran Funeral Home, 4 E. Bayard St., Seneca Falls, NY on Saturday (March 24) from 10AM to 12 Noon followed by a funeral service at 12 Noon with Deacon Robert Cyrana officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. If desired, contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, 3685 County Road 6, Geneva, NY 14456

Jan was born in Rochester, NY on August 27, 1950 the son of the late William and Ethel Knitter Major. He has resided in Phelps, NY for the past 27 years, moving there from Scottsville, NY. He had an Associate’s Degree from R.I.T. in Tool and Dye and was a partner in the ownership of Roth Manufacturing Corporation, Phelps, NY. He was a member of St. Francis Church, Phelps, NY. Jan loved hunting, camping and fishing. He also was a Civil War Buff.

He is survived by:
His wife, Maryann DuFresne Major of Phelps, NY, whom he married on November 25, 1988.
1 daughter – Jacquie (Phillip) Syck – Clifton Springs, NY
3 grandchildren – Ethin Rood, Charles Jan and Desiree Rose Syck
1 sister – Elizabeth Wurzer – Scottsville, NY
Several nieces and nephews
In addition to his parents, Jan was predeceased by his son, William Major who died in 2001, 2 sisters, Diane Fenton and Kathy Wisney, and 4 brothers, William, Robert, Stewart, and Edward Major.
