Waterloo - John “Jack” Arthur Jarvis, 85, of 213 W. Williams St., died Sunday (June 10, 2012) at Blossom View Nursing Home in Sodus.
In keeping with his wishes there will be no calling hours. The memorial service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday (June 13) at Trinity Episcopal Church in Seneca Falls. The Very Rev. Thomas Gramley, interim rector of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church of Olean, will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo at the convenience of the family.

John was born February 11, 1927 in Waterloo, the son of Arthur and Anna Ulrich Jarvis. He was a 1945 graduate of Waterloo High School. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps from 1945 to 1947. He was employed for 38 and a half years at the Waterloo Post Office, retiring in 1985 as Post Master. He then was a courier for Community Bank in Waterloo for 15 years, retiring 2001. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Seneca Falls. He was a life member of Warner VanRiper Post 435, American Legion and Past Post commander; serving as commander in 1963 and Seneca County Commander in 1967, and Seventh District Legionnaire of the Year in 2001. He was a former member of Waterloo Lions Club, a 49 year active member and life member of Waterloo Volunteer Fire Department, life member of BPOE Elks Lodge 992 in Seneca Falls and Elk of the Year in 1982 and 1983.
He is survived by his son, John (Melanie) Jarvis of Lodi; his cousin, Barbara Hanlin of Seneca Falls; and special friends Bonnie, Kelly, Joe, and Dennis of Sodus Point. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Betty J. Loveless Jarvis, who died April 14, 2000.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo.
