Geneva/Seneca Falls – John Michael Sipos, 71, of East Lake Road, Geneva, NY, formerly of Cayuga St., Seneca Falls, NY, died Saturday (June 15, 2013) at Geneva General Hospital, Geneva, NY.
Family and friends may call at the Doran Funeral Home, 4 E. Bayard St., Seneca Falls, on Wednesday (June 19) from 4 – 7 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday (June 20) at 11 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, Seneca Falls, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Bart Minso OFM Cap., Pastor of Holy Cross Church, Ovid, NY. Burial will be in St. Columbkille Cemetery, Seneca Falls. If desired, contributions may be made to Varick Fire Department, 4682 St. Rt. 96A, Geneva, NY 14456 or the Seneca County Federation of Sportsmen’s Club, P. O. Box 355, Waterloo, NY 13165.
John was born in Seneca Falls on August 25, 1941 the son of the late Andrew L. and Catherine Maguire Sipos Sr. He had resided in Seneca Falls for most of his life. John was a graduate of St. Patrick’s School, Seneca Falls, Geneva High School, Class of 1960, St. John Fisher College, Class of 1964, & a 1967 graduate of Albany Law School. In 1967 John returned to Seneca Falls, after law school, and took over his father’s law practice. Throughout his career he served as Seneca County Attorney for 24 years and represented several towns, including Covert and Varick for over 40 years.
He was a member of Holy Cross Church, Ovid, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and a former member of St. Patrick’s Church of Seneca Falls during his time residing in Seneca Falls. He was a member of the New York State Bar, the American Bar, & the Seneca County Bar Associations, member and past president of the Rumseyville Sportsman’s Club, member of the Seneca Falls Knights of Columbus, Council #222, Ducks Unlimited, a member and past president of the Seneca County Federation of Sportsmen’s Club, South Seneca Sportsman’s Club, & a member of the North Seneca Sportsman’s Club, the Seneca Falls Elks Lodge #992, & the National Rifle Association.
John was an avid sportsman particularly enjoying fishing and hunting. He took pride in his gardening and enjoyed traveling & spending time on the lake with his family & friends. John loved sharing these hobbies, as well as his time, with his grandchildren.
