Kenneth Earl  Hammond, Sr.  passed  away  on May 24, 2012, after a brief illness.

Family and friends may call at the Doran Funeral Home, 4 E. Bayard St., Seneca Falls, NY on Tuesday (May 29) from 10 AM to 12 Noon followed by a funeral service at 12 Noon with Pastor Ellen Knight of Lyons, NY, officiating.  Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan, NY immediately following the funeral service.

Born and raised in the Syracuse area, Ken and Mary moved to Penn Yan in 1952.  He was a meat department manager for the A&P Tea Company for many years, Madia’s Grocery Store in Geneva, NY and Marshall’s IGA in Penn Yan.  In later years, along with his wife, he served as a court attendant for the Yates County Court System.  He was an avid golfer and bowler as well as a NY Mets baseball and Syracuse Orange basketball fan.  As a young man, he was an active member of the Elsworth  Volunteer Fire Department for many years  and a coach for the Babe Ruth Elks baseball team.  In recent years, Ken had moved to Seneca Falls where he resided at Prospect Hill Apartments to be nearer to family.

He is survived by daughters Karen (William) Switzer of Seneca Falls, NY and Judy Delbridge of Endicott, NY, and son, Kenneth E. (Virginia) Hammond, Jr. of St. Louis, Mo.;  grandchildren  Jennifer, Rebecca and Matthew Switzer of Seneca Falls, NY and Sara (Rick) Stevens and Renee Wright  of Missouri, 5 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.  He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Norma Snow of Lyons, NY and brother-in-law, Arthur (Nellie) Ausburn of Cato, NY, and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his sisters, Florence Litzenberger and Elsie Miller; brothers William, Alan and Edmund Hammond, and his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Louise Ausburn Hammond.

The family wishes to extend their deep appreciation to the nurses and staff of Huntington Living Center for their loving care of Ken during his final days.    In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider donations in Ken’s memory to the Keuka Comfort Care Home at 35 Route 54, East Lake Road, Penn Yan, NY  14527.
