Seneca Falls – Norma P. Gargan, 89, formerly of Lower Lake Road, Seneca Falls, died Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Seneca Hill Manor, Oswego, NY.
Family and friends may call at the Doran Funeral Home, 4 E. Bayard St., Seneca Falls, NY on Sunday, April 17, from 1 to 3 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Sue Hadley, Pastor of First United Methodist Church, Seneca Falls, NY, officiating. Burial will be in Groton Rural Cemetery, Groton, NY at the convenience of the family. Norma was born in Cortland, NY on September 22, 1926, the daughter of the late Frank & Norma Cummings Page. Norma was Valedictorian of the Mynderse Academy Class of 1944. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Cornell University (Ithaca, NY) with a Bachelor’s Degree in English. Norma enjoyed a 35 year career as a public school teacher, retiring from the Auburn City School District in 1986. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Seneca Falls. Norma volunteered for the Taylor-Brown Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Smith Opera House (Geneva, NY), Meals on Wheels, the Seneca Falls Visitor Center, and she was active in the Seneca Community Players. Norma was a sociable gal who enjoyed conversation, playing bridge, traveling, reading, and especially people-watching.
She is survived by:
3 daughters – Elizabeth Gargan (Michael Davis) – Palm Springs, CA.
Kathryn (William) Harrison – Oswego, NY
Claire Gargan – Brielle, NJ
1 son – John Gargan – Seneca Falls, NY
6 grandchildren – Abigail, Sarah, Jacob, Peter, Daniel Forman and Sean Davis
1 brother – Frank Page – Orange Park, FL.
as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Norma was predeceased by her grandson, Lucas William Forman and her former husband, William Gargan.
