Local students and school theatre groups received honors in the Stars of Tomorrow program sponsord by the Rochester Broadway Theatre League. It was a celebration of the area’s performing arts programs Thursday as Stars of Tomorrow honored the best of high school musicals. Students from 38 schools performed scenes from Footloose and Cinderella to Big and Seussical the Musical as four schools per division in each category were recognized.
The 32 students recognized in the best actor and actress categories will move on to a new competition on May 24. At another event at the Auditorium Theatre, they will narrowed down American Idol-style until there’s one in each category left to represent the nine-county Rochester region at the state level in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards in June. The 32 also are featured at rochesterhp.com/StarsofTomorrow, where people can vote on who should win “fan favorite,” which carries a cash prize.
