There’s a new way to enjoy camping at Sampson State Park. Superintendent Tom Watt said seven rustic cabins have been constructed at the popular state park. Located at 6096 Route 96A, on the shore of Seneca Lake, Sampson is one of the state’s most popular parks. Its 2083 acres features 245 electrical sites, 64 non electrical sites and now, seven rustic cabins. The cabins have no electricity or water. They have bunks that sleep four and porches with an overhang. There’s a fire ring and picnic table for each cabin. They can be rented for $41 to $42 per night with a two night minimum. by calling 1-800-456-CAMP(2267) or on line at www.ReserveAmerica.com
In addition to camping facilities, Sampson offers a 103-slip marina, the only one in mid lake, and a boat launching site, marine pumpout, and swimming area.
Other facilities include concession stands, picnic areas and pavilions, restrooms with hot showers, a fitness area, tennis courts, baseball diamond, basketball court, playgrounds and trailer water fill station and dumping facilities. There is a recreation building where campers may rent bicycles, miniature golf, and the Sampson Military Museum.
On Aug. 4, the Friends of Sampson State Park will host Salute to the Troops, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will have exhibits of military weapons, dress and lifestyles from the French and Indian War to the present. Additional exhibits will be the Doughnut Dollies of the Red Cross, War Dogs, military vehicles, weapons firing, local historical societies, and a military fitness trail. Entry to the park is $7 per carload.
Following the Salute to the Troops, Seneca County Historian Walt Gable and local historians will present a program on the history of Sampson in the recreational building in honor of the 70thanniversary of Sampson. For more information, contact Doris Wolf at 315 246 7580.
